Introduction:
The Estes History Channel has asked you and your partner to create a slideshow describing one explorer (WHO?), including what he accomplished(WHAT?), who funded the journey (WHY?), what adventures the explorer and the crew experienced, and HOW their journey affected the lives of people back home and in the places they visited (WHERE?). You will also need to know WHEN the explorer made his journey.
Procedure:
1. Form groups of two students and assign each group an explorer.
2. You will do research during social studies class, language class, library, and for homework.
3. You are required to write down notes on 4x6 index cards using your own words.
4. Using your notes as a guide, you will write 2-3 paragraphs that will be collected and graded by
your teacher.
5. You will summarize your paragraphs, highlighting 6-7 of the most important facts to become the
bullet points on your PowerPoint slides. You will also include a map and an explorer's picture on
your PowerPoint presentation, along with an introduction and conclusion.
6. You will use your written paragraphs to help you during your oral presentation.
The Project:
- Questions to keep in mind about your explorer while researching:
- Who were they and where did they come from?
- Who funded their journey or journeys and why?
- What was the reason for the journey or what was your explorer looking for?
- What obstacles did they encounter along the way?
- How did their journey affect the people back home and in the places they visited?
- Time of the journey or journeys.
- Map of the journey or journeys.
Good Luck!
